Congratulations to 2024 I-77 Drive for Community “Applause for a Cause” winner Time Out Youth. Learn more about this year’s winner and the other participants below.
The I-77 Drive for Community “Applause for a Cause” is an annual competition for five local nonprofit organizations to have the chance to win between $5,000 and a grand prize of $15,000. On October 18, 2024, each nonprofit was paired with a singer at a public concert. The singer that received the loudest applause from audience members secured the top prize for its nonprofit partner. At the end of the night, Angels & Sparrows was declared the winner.
The five nonprofit organizations that participated in this year’s program were selected using the following criteria: provides aid to disadvantaged groups, aids equal opportunity programs, and provides infrastructure for the community.

Angels & Sparrows empowers families to reach their potential by providing access to food security and educational opportunities that lead to a fresh start. Since being founded in 2008, Angels & Sparrows has served over 1,000,000 meals.
Time Out Youth Center offers support, advocacy, and opportunities for personal development and social interaction to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) youth ages 13-24. Time Out Youth offers vital programs, fostering unconditional acceptance, and creating safe spaces for self-expression through leadership, community support and advocacy.
The Ada Jenkins Center promotes the importance of education and equal opportunity for all citizens. They are a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization helping those in poverty break the cycle and gain economic independence. The Center has become a resource hub for Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville and a well-respected model for community centers in the region.
Feeding Charlotte is a nonprofit organization that aims to help feed families here in Mecklenburg County. Its vision is to be a first responder in alleviating hunger in the Charlotte community. There is enough fresh, viable food thrown away every single day in our community to feed each of our hungry neighbors three meals a day. Feeding Charlotte has the system in place to get this food to those who need it most.
Providing hot meals to the hungry is only part of FeedNC's mission. By creating connections to food, education, and resources as a catalyst for change, FeedNC has served thousands of families across four counties by way of innovative programs, including culinary job training, community connections, community cooking demos, food movers, grassroots grocery, daily fare, mobile pantries, food rescuers and catering.
